Wooferface’s Waveform Wednesdays: Fools Gold

Published on June 13th, 2012

Brooklyn based label Fools Gold is literally a goldmine of music waiting to be tapped, pun very much intended. Started by scene legend A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs in 2007, it is home to tons of quality artists showcasing a diverse range of styles. It seems like every time I go music hunting I cant help but see a release stemming from this label, so needless to say, its about time it got the coverage it deserves.

Onra – L.O.V.E.

Lets start with the new stuff shall we? Onra, a Paris based electronic musician, just released his Deep in the Night EP not 24 hours ago and deep might not even describe the half of it. A blend of intergalactic tones and hip hop beats, Onra’s EP is a perfect addition to his already intense arsenal of sounds.

Onra – Perfect(ed) Match

Onra – Fight or Die

As label owner, A-Trak has no problem dipping his pen in company ink, so to speak. As such, the label’s catalog is brewing with juicy collabs from this mastermind and many others with remixes to boot. For those of you who don’t know, A-Trak is 5 time World DMC champ, his first won at age 15. And that was only 1997. Since then, he has been making moves upon moves, too many to type in fact, and is still very much at the top of his game.

A-Trak & Zinc – Stingray

A-Trak & Dillon Francis – Money Makin’

Danny Brown is yet another name that is unavoidable on the label’s roster. In 2011, this Detroit based artist released his groundbreaking XXX album on Fools Gold which earned him universal acclaim, even making Spin magazine’s #1 Hip Hop album for the year.

Danny Brown – Grown Up

Danny Brown – Die Like a Rockstar

Also very recently, Fools Gold has put out some tracks but the duo that are breathing life into a new body of dance music, Flosstadamus. If you don’t already know the name, then you need to get out more, but I’ll leave a couple samples here to keep you curious.

Flosstradamus – Lyke My Style

Flosstradamus – Rollup
