The Menagérie 2

With electronic music on the rise, it’s more important than ever to let the caged beast free. Every so often new sounds permeate the blogosphere. They change the way we think about music, composition, and sound. Among the over saturated, the imitations, the knock-offs, there will always be those with an exceptional ear for the psychology of music and sound itself.

Starski – Sunstruck (Bart B More Remix)

Bart B More never fails to surprise me. He takes slap bass and disco samples and turns it into a funky, melodic, bassy track with a scratchy synth lead driving the melody. Not to mention some crazy builds with all kinds of squiggling square waves. Luvs it.

Steve Aoki ft. Rivers Como – Earthquakey People (Dillon Francis Remix)

New jump up remix by the man Dillon himself. He loves his 808’s, and he’s definitely getting more creative with his bass modulation. It starts with a poppy feel and never loses the feelgood attitude. Almost 80’s.

Deadmau5 – Strobe (Special Features Remix)

A straight forward but still interesting remix of Deadmau5’s Strobe. The original, though quite beautiful, never takes the energy all the way up. I’d like to see someone mix between the two.

Morgan Page – In the Air (Mord Fustang Remix)

I haven’t heard the original, but this track is great. Mord has a knack for soft melodic builds that take you out into space and spin you into orbit. The vocals are great, the melody is great, and the touch of electro bass gives the track a lot of warmth. The intro has some really interesting sampling, too.
