The End of an Era

Published on February 7th, 2011

We knew this day was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier. On Saturday, LCD Soundsystem announced that they will be playing their final show in NYC on April 2nd. Fans of the group have been anticipating this farewall ever since James Murphy announced that 2010’s This Is Happening would be their last album. The show is set to take place at Madison Square Garden, and will feature 3 hours of music spanning LCD’s career. It’s looking to be a classy affair, as the group is requesting that attendees come in black, white, or black and white. No names have been announced yet, but the statement indicated that Murphy & co will be accompanied on stage by “friends and family”.

As Murphy says in ‘Dance Yrself Clean’, “it’s the end of an era, it’s true”. LCD Soundsystem’s ingenuity and spirit will surely be missed in the music world. If you’re going to try and make the show (I know I am), details on pre-sale tickets will be posted tomorrow (2/8) on the group’s website and Pitchfork. General tickets go on sale February 11th. Now, some tunes to remind us what we’ll be missing…
