One of my favorite bands, The Antlers, will be headlining a show this Friday (12/3) at the First Unitarian Church. I’ve seen the group twice before, once at a tiny bar in Montreal, and once when they opened for The National at the Electric Factory here in Philly. Those two venues couldn’t be more different, but both times they absolutely blew it out of the water. They take a stunning and poignant recording (Hospice), and turn it into a powerful live music experience. Combined with the intimate setting of the Church, this concert is poised to be epic.
Opening up for The Antlers will be The Luyas, a four-piece indie act out of Montreal. They’ve caught some attention for their use of a variety of instruments, including guitars, French horn, keyboards, percussion, and even a Moodswinger…in case anyone knows what that is. It’s pretty hard to describe their sound, but the words lovely and unique do come to mind. If these guys are new to you, the video below serves as an excellent introduction to the group.
I had the chance to talk to Michael Lerner of The Antlers back in February, you can check out that interview here. Now, have a listen to a couple of tracks, buy your tickets here, and we’ll see you at the show!
