No One Likes Techno, Vol. II

Published on October 20th, 2011

It’s time again to barrage your ears with repetitive European electronic nonsense, otherwise known as techno.

A couple things from Secure (Netherlands) this time. It’s to the point now where anything from Secure makes me pre a little bit. First, and most recently, we have Baskerville vs. Henzel & Disco Nova with the EP Gimmi 5. Then another jawn from Baskerville, with Bart B More doing an excellent remix on the Devil’s Town EP. Heard the track on Bart B More’s recent mix “Back in Europe”; worth checkin out if you’re feeling the new Bart B More. Dem Slackers also do a remix on the Gimmi 5 EP which is surprisingly techno for them, as I’ve always known them to be pretty fidget.

Nero’s Crush On You EP finally happened (off of MTA; UK), surprisingly with a techno remix from Brodinski. I heard “Crush On You” numerous times on the fest circuit this year; from Skrillex every time, and of course from Nero himself. Brodinski’s remix is very much in the deep house/minimalist style similar to Djedjotronic’s second remix of “Hot Mess,” which you can check out in the last techno round-up.

I was very excited to see a full collaboration album from techno masters Paul Chambers and Shinichi Osawa in July, titled Singapore Swing off of Avex (Belgium/Japan). Now, the Singapore Swing EP had been released already in 2010, but I guess the album as a whole is just recent. Paul Chambers provides the acid while Shinichi Osawa provides….more acid.

Matt & Kim remix EP, oh em gee! Of course the reason for my excitement is techno-maestro Jan Driver poops a nice one on it. Here is Mr. Driver’s remix of “Cameras” off of the Cameras Remixes EP released on Diferent (USA). I bet Making Time will be playing this track out.

A brand new Neus EP dropped this month, cleverly titled Pussy Weed Money, on Zimbalam (France). I don’t know if Neus is exactly techno, he walks a fine line that we have to pretentiously label for him, which he probably doesn’t give a shit what we call it. Anyway, this track is sick; I would even go so far to say it’s techno-step, seeing as I have full creative labeling license here.

Back in September, duo Donovans & Maelstrom dropped the I Need EP on Lucky Beard (France). The title track, “I Need,” is a funkin acid-mad-house banger. Can’t say the same for the rest of the tracks on the EP, but all you need is one, right?

No more blurbs. Here is some more stuff that came out in the past month or so; checking out some acid-folks from Russia (Gmorozov) and the UK (Attaque), as well as a techy-house piece from the fellers out of Italy off Southern Fried Records, Keith & Supabeatz. Can anyone say smoke monster?
