Justice – Audio, Video, Disco!

Published on October 13th, 2011

The long awaited new EP from electronic musicians Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, otherwise known as Justice, has finally dropped from the skies. For those who remember their release of Cross in June of 2007 on Ed Banger, this is a very exciting moment in the history of dance music. Cross was nominated for the Grammy for best Electronic/Dance album and came in 15th on Pitchfork.com‘s top 50 albums of 2007. The duo’s remix of MGMT’s Electric Feel finally earned them the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording. And since then, we’ve waited. News about the new album began to trickle out in the past 6 months. The pre-release of the song Civilization, a long with an epic video, lent itself further to the hype. The highly acclaimed group that changed dance music across the world forever has done it again.

But can it be done again? The great thing about this album is that it expresses Gaspard and Xavier’s talents as musicians, not just electronic music producers. There is clearly a high level of skill and training involved in the composition of this new material. The duo has moved away from the hard hitting electronic sound that they pioneered towards a fuller live sound. The two sound like a sweet mixture of  modern pop, disco, and complex 70’s rock n’ roll reminiscent of Queen or The Who. It still has that same D.A.N.C.E flavor, but is definitely not a repeat of their first album.
