BOYS NOIZE + RUSKO @ WEBSTER HALL (NYC) 10/29/10

Published on November 1st, 2010

Friday night was a cold one in New York City, but that didn’t deter hordes of people from turning out to Webster Hall to see Boys Noize and Rusko play a double-header. The actual sets didn’t start until 1am, and by that time the venue was completely packed, although thankfully not as overheated as the Bloody Beetroots show there two weeks ago. First up was Boys Noize, aka German electro producer/DJ Alex Ridha. He played an enjoyable set that was a solid mix of his own material, samples, and other remixes. Overall not a super intense set, but that’s what works for Boys Noize. As a performer he’s very enamoring, you can tell by his constant smile that he loves what he’s doing. Towards the end he worked in his two newest tracks, ‘Yeah’ and ‘1010’, both of which were very well received by the crowd.

After about an hour and a half, the time had come for Rusko to take over. He came out and played a fairly typical Rusko set. In terms of getting people hype, he’s top-notch, never ceasing from jumping up and down and calling out ‘dubsteppers, hands up!’. His actual set seemed a bit stale to me though, he played a lot of material off of his latest album, O.M.G.!. However, this was my third time seeing Rusko in the past three months, so it’s quite possible that I’ve just had my fill for a while. Have a listen to some tracks below.

To further illustrate the night, check out these two videos. First is Boys Noize playing ‘Yeah’ at the show. He mixes in Chemical Brothers halfway through…Swoon indeed.

I also stumbled upon this vid from The Culture of Me. Five minutes of this high quality footage gives you a great idea of what Rusko is like live.
