BO-PEEP’S TROPICAL BLEATS, VOL. 3

Published on November 6th, 2010

Heat’s too expensive to run constantly, so I’ve been keeping myself warm by wearing multiple layers and blasting my favorite Tropical tunes as loud as possible. If you’re in the same boat, I suggest you do the same. Hell, even if you’re not in the same boat, I suggest you do the same, because these tracks are too hot not to listen to. Seriously.

Addicted To You (Lone Remix) – The Count & Sinden <-Lone‘s awesome. This UK House producer seems to have this fascination with classic House music. And when I say “classic,” I mean from the late ’80s – early ’90s House. The kind that some of our parents used to rave to. So naturally, when I saw that he was remixing The Count & Sinden‘s new single off the Mega Mega Mega – LP, “Addicted To You,” I got excited. And the result does not disappoint: ravey synths fly over a scorching riddim, evoking images of the most awesome beach party that you’ve never been to. It’s deep, but this track’ll be golden for keeping the floor hot late into the night.

Kalise (Mumdance & Jammer Remix) – El Guincho <- Mad Decent darling Mumdance is a weird dude… but that’s where his appeal hides. One genre is never good enough for him; there’s always gotta be a synthesis of two or three sounds occupying the same space. So it is with this remix. One minute you think it’s going to be a monster, the next you’re scratching your head when what seems to be a synthesized xylophone starts rambling over snare rolls for the drop… and then, suddenly, there’s a textbook Grime breakdown that literally comes from nowhere. It’s infectious, but I have no idea what would happen if you dropped it: I’ve never tried. Hopefully some other DJ out there will be braver than I am. And because he’s the man, he’s released all of his remixes from 2008-2009 on his website. You should go grab it.

Git ‘Em (Zombies for Money Remix) – Steve Starks <- More Zombies for Money! They do no wrong! Ever! Here they bring it with a remix of Washington DC’s Steve Starks, which they’ve transformed into a full-on romp through the rainforest. Complete with bird calls, monkey screeches, elephant trumpets, and, of course, the signature Zombies for Money “rattle.” Finally time to kick the floor up a notch? Drop this. Jesus pose. Watch the Zombies take over. Grab it and great remixes from Dillon Francis and DJ Ayers on Beatport.

Baltimore Clap (Bert On Beats Bootleg) – Benga <- Banger here. Allow me to introduce you to Estonia’s Bert On Beats, another one of those awesome Kuduro artists that you’ve never heard of. Here’s a bootleg remix he did of Benga’s (if you don’t know who that is, Dubstep-ers, get Googling immediately) “Baltimore Clap.” I wasn’t the biggest fan of the original, but this bootleg owns. It’s the horns, whistles, and chants — they set it way over the edge.
